Obituary from Toowoomba Chronicle:
Gordon Layt
Mr Gordon Layt belonged to the Salvation Army Band, wrote his own organ music and played the accordian. He took a keen interest in computers which he sent to the South african Slavation Army Mission of his brother, Major Mervyn Lindsay Layt.
Mr Layt was a boilermaker and held a welding certificate. In 1935[sic] he found work in New Zealand as a spray painter and ship welder. Mr Layt returned to Australia in 1973.
As well as working for Walsh's Engineering in Toowoomba as a welder he did welding jobs for car owners and was ever-ready to help the needy.
Gordon was born in Toowoomba to Herbert Gordon and Thelma Grace Layt who had three sons.
Mr Layt was a quiet, homely man.
He died of cancer in teh toowoomba General Hospital on March 16, aged 52.
Mr Layt is survived by his family, Kevin and Muriel Layt, Mervyn and Beverly Layt and their families.
After a graveside service on March 17, Gordon Ray[sic] Layt was buried in the Toowoomba Garden of Rememberance.6 |

St Andrews Church, Ruby Street, Tingha, Guyra Shire, NSW, Australia, According to the rites of the Church of England
From the Quirindi Advocate:
Wedding - LAYTE[sic] - LITTLE - St Andrew's Church of England, Ruby Street, Tingha, at 10am on January 1, was the scene of a very pretty wedding (the church being packed to capacity by invited guests only), when Thelma Grace, eldest daughter of of Mr and Mrs A E Little was united to Mr Gordon Layte[sic], eldest son of Mr and Mrs P T[sic] Layte[sic], late of Nundle and Uralla and now of Woolomin.
The bride who was dressed in crepe de chine, ivory coloured, covered with chantilly lace, the veil being fashioned with pearls instead of the usual orange blossoms, entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Clara Little, and the bridegroom's cousin, Moss[sic?] Amy Dunbar. Miss Little was dressed in sky blue crepe de chine, trimmed with silver lace, whilst Miss Dunbar wore a gown of green crepe de chine covered with gold lace.
Mr Layte[sic] was attended by Mr Allan Cross, of Woolbrook, whilst Mr A G Little, brother of teh bride, acted as groomsman.
The Rev G H Rae officiated.
The wedding breakfast was held at the home of the bride's parents where her mother and the bridegroom's mother received the guests, whose number was in teh vicinity of 100.
The great popularity of both the bride and the bridegroom in Tingha lone stands forth greatly when the costly gifts in silver, gold and glass are examined. The many gifts came from all parts of the State, includingNew Zealand. A leading authority in silver and glassware has estimated the value at £100, several large tables being used to place them on view.
Many were the toasts and eulogistic addresses, all speakers referring to the bride and bridegroom in glowing terms. After the breakfast Mr and Mrs Layte[sic] left on a motor tour of Northern New South Wales, their future home being in the pick of three northern towns that will be visited during their tour., Bride=Thelma Grace Little, Witness=Albert George Little, Witness=Leslie Little, Witness=Henry George Dunbar, Witness=Allan D Cross, Minister=George H Rae, Consenting=Arthur Edward Little1,4,12 |
