House of Mr James Rae, Peel Forest, New Zealand, From the Ashburton Guardian of 12/10/1901:
"Wedding - A quiet little wedding took place at Peel Forest on Wednesday, September 18th, the contracting parties beingMr FF Johnstone, of Springburn, and Miss E Rae, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Jas Rae, of Peel Forest. The ceremony took place at the residence of the brides parents, where a large number of relatives and friends had congregated. Misses R and E Rae acted as bridesmaids, and Mr F Rae as best man. the bride looked very nice in a fawn dress trimmed with silk and white lace to match, with the orthodox veil and wreath, the bridesmaids being dressed in shot material. The bride was given away by her father. After the ceremony the bridal party and guests were entertained at afternoon tea, when the usual toasts were duely honoured. In the evening a dance was given, which was kept going by a large number of friends until the small hours of the morning. The music was supplied by Mr O Whetton and Mr F Lorgelly, while Mr F Johnstone acted as M.C. A few songs were sung during the evening, which helped to make things enjoyable. The list of presents wetre numerous and pretty, some being very valuable."
Note the wedding was "quiet", took place at the parents home, and the bride wore a fawn dress, not white, probably due to the fact the bride was 7 months pregnant at the time., Groom=Francis Finlay Johnston, Bride=Mary Eliza Rae1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2 |

House of W Morgan, Methven, New Zealand, From The Ashburton Guardian of 12/04/1893:
"Marriage Festivities at Methven - This little township was roused from its usual restfulness on Thursday when the friends and kindred of Mr Simon Rae, jun., of Peel Forest, and Miss Agnes Anderina Johnston, of Springburn, assembled from far and near to rejoice with them in their auspicious union. The ceremony took place in the house of Mr W. Morgan, J.P., brother-in-law of the bride, and the official duty was discharged by the Rev Mr Finlayson, late of Methven, in his usually happy manner. The bride was attired in a robe of silver broche, trimmed with merveiloux to match, the usual veil and wreath, and carrying a beautiful bouquet of choice flowers. The bridesmaids, Misses Rae and Johnston, were dressed in white, and the Misses Morgan (two little nieces of the bride) looked very pretty in pale blue. The groomsmen were Messrs W. Johnston and L. Drayton. The wedding gifts were numerous, varied and valuable, not merely as mementoes of the occasion and of th donors, but also intrinsically, and consisted of articles of use and ornament. A sumptuous repast, provided by the host and hostess in their wonted style, was partaken of by the guests, and the evening was fully occupied with music, song and dance, to the enjoyment of the assembled company. these were varied also with a well acted little comedy by misses Mary and Gladys Morgan. Mr A Jago, as M.C., and Mr W. Syme, as violinist, contributed very much to the succeess of the evening's entertainment. Mr and Mrs Rae went per morning train to the north for their wedding trip.", Bride=Agnes Anderina Johnstone, Minister=Rev (?) Finlayson, Bridesmaid=Elizabeth Jane Johnstone, Flowergirl=(?)
